DEFENCE OF CANADA

MR A. MEIGHEN DEMANDS FRANKNESS HYPOCRISY DENOUNCED. CO-OPERATION WITH BRITAIN ADVOCATED. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. OTTAWA, January 19.

Declaring that the Government's contention that Canada could look after her own defence was hypocrisy and pretence, the Conservative Leader in the Senate, Mr Arthur Meighen, today urged a defence policy of frankness.

“We never can defend ourselves,” he said, “so why not say so? ’ The Government’s whole policy contains no reference to co-operation with the British Admiralty and War Office. Canadians want an assurance that our defences are being fitted into the British ■programme and that Canada is interested in the security of France.”
