BASEBALL AFFAIRS
WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION.
MANAGEMENT COMMITTEE MEETS.
Further progress of baseball in the Wairarapa was reported at last night's meeting of the Management Committee of the Wairarapa Baseball Association, when a second team was entered in the competition by Borthwick's Bears and reports were received of probable new clubs forming.
The rules of the New Zealand Council were received, to which organisation application was made for affiliation of the local association. The area of the Wairarapa Association has now been defined as that portion of the North Island and including Dannevirke in the north and Cross Creek in the south and from the ranges on the west to the coast on the east. With such a large area to control it was decided that efforts be made gradually to encourage the formation of clubs throughout the district and that first steps should be taken in Carterton. Provided satisfactory arrangements could be made for a suitable ground it was decided to play a fixture in Carterton on Saturday week, January 28, by way of demonstration «to the public and prospective players. During the weekend a coaching visit will be paid to Masterton by Mr Alf. Jenkins, president of the New Zealand Baseball Council, and a party of players from Wellington. Clubs were notified of the arrangements made and it is expected that approximately 50 players will be present to receive coaching advice.
The draw for Saturday’s matches is as follows: Territorials v Harcombe Motors, 1.30 p.m., No. 1 ground (umpires, Messrs J. Claridge and W. Harding); Fagan Motors v Borthwick Bears, No. 2, 3 p.m., No. 2 ground (umpires, Messrs L. Allen and W. McPhail); Pirates v Reliance Tyres, 3 p.m., No. 1 ground (umpires, Messrs D. Handy and W. Harding).
