CARTERTON
METHODIST CHURCH CIRCUIT. QUARTERLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) Officials of the Carterton Methodist Circuit last evening held their quarterly meeting. Finance and membership were reported to be in fairly good condition, and that the anniversaries of the Schools and Churches had been successfully celebrated during the last quarter. Bereaved families were given a vote of sympathy, viz., Mrs Lorenzen, Mr J. Piddy and Mr F. Jensen. The Church’s Youth Department was voted £1 to assist in the establishment of a capital fund for the new Youth Directors movement. The stipend is to be restored to the minimum figure with aid from the Home Mission Fund. Mr Stevens was appointed to attend the annual conference in Christchurch, and Messrs Hunt and Vaughan are to continue as Circuit Stewards. Miss R. Jones is to be Agent and Reporter for the “Methodist Times.” Harvest Festivals were fixed for the last Sunday of March and the first Sunday of April. Retiring collections will be taken shortly for the Masterton Children’s Home. Until better support is assured, services will not be planned for Clareville.
Sudden Death. The death took place in Carterton yesterday afternoon of Mr J. Cronin under tragic circumstances. He was preparing for a bath and before he entered the bath he suffered a heart seizure from which he failed to rally. He was on the green last Saturday afternoon but preferred to be an onlooker rather than play owing to indisposition. The sons are Messrs L. J. Cronin, Laurie Cronin, of Ratahei, and Henry Cronin, of Papakura, Auckland, and the daughter Mrs Hawkins, of Wellington. The funeral will take place tomorrow morning at the Clareville Cemetery.
