AERO CLUB ACTIVITIES
CIVIL RESERVE TRAINING.
SATISFACTORY PROGRESS.
Mr A. McDonald presided over the monthly committee meeting of the Wairarapa and Ruahine Aero Club held in the Club House, Hood Aerodrome, on Tuesday. The air secretary advised that applications for enrolment in the Civil Reserve of Pilots were being invited by public advertisement, the closing dak oeing February 10. The number of vacancies for 1939 is limited and the successful applicants after passing the medical examination would commence their training immediately.. The firsi year’s training would amount to 40 hours free flying to "A” License standard and at the completion of this period trainees would be proficient in handling light aircraft. Application Corms and particulars of training had been received and could be obtained at the offices of the secretaries.
The Pilot Instructor reported that the training of present members of the Civil Reserve was proceeding satisfactorily despite unfavourable weather conditions.
The flying report for -December was read, the number of hours flown amounting to 128. J compared with 115 hours 10 minutes for the previous month. Cross country flying increased, a total of 19 flights being logged. Wellington, Blenheim, Christchurch, Westport, Greymouth and Dannevirke were visited during these flights.
Messrs C. Beecham and K. Nilsson made first solo flights, Messrs R. Arm-, strong, T. Denbee, J. Hamill, J. Sievers, R. Prout and W. Jaspers passed “A” License tests and Messrs F. R. Bodie and J. Sievers obtained “A” endorsements. t
Four new members were elected, three as pilot members and one as an ordinary member.
