STOCK MARKET
PAHIATUA SALE. LAMB VALUES IMPROVE. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co. Ltd. report: —We held our weekly sale yesterday when despite the unseasonable weather, our entry came forward up to advertised numbers, and we submitted a yarding of 2800 lambs of all classes to a good attendance of local and Manawatu buyers. The yarding generally was short of b.f. rape lambs, but we penned a number of lines of very forward conditioned shorn romney cross wether lambs, and in this section values today can be quoted as in advance of last week’s sale to about Is per head. In the cull pens, little if any advance was registered, but sales were readily made. Included in our entry was an outstanding pen of sh wr lambs a/c’. Wm Mitchell, and these after keen competition were sold to an Ashhurst buyer at 15s 6d, top price for the day. Messrs J. H. George Estate’s annual draft made an attractive offering and the top pen sold readily at 14s. Compared with the sales in surrounding districts, the local market compares more than favourably. As an instance, we quote a line of shorn wether lambs for which the maximum bid at Pongaroa on Saturday was 13s and which today realised 14s 2d. We quote as follows: —A/c. Wm Mitchell, sh wr lambs 15s; small woolly ditto, 9s 6d; cull wr lambs, 6s 2d; A/c. J. H. George Estate sh wr lambs, 14s 6d; medium ditto, 10s 2d; cull ditto, 8s sd; A/c Wyeth Estate, shorn wr lambs 14s 6d; small ditto, 7s 6d; A/c John Stewart, sh wr lambs 13s 2d; A/c. E. Chisnail, b.f. rape lambs med. 13s lOd; A/c, C. Welch, sh wr lambs, 12s; small ditto, 8s lOd; A/c. C. H. Arrow, med. sh. wr lambs, 11s 9d; small ditto, 10s.. Cull pens as follows: —Woolly wr lambs, 10s 3d, 9s to 7s lOd; shorn wr lambs, 10s to 7s 6d; cull ewe lambs, 15s to 12s Bd.
