TONING THE MUSCLES

USEFUL EXERCISE. The following exercise can be done night and morning in bed. It will strengthen the abdominal muscles themselves, and tone and stimulate the internal organs. Lie on the back with knees flexed. Draw in the abdomen, beginning with the lower abdominal muscles, until there is a deep hollow just under the rib. Hold this for a second or so, then slowly push out with the abdominal muscles towards the ceiling and rhythmically about thirty times at least twice a day. During the day, remember always to keep the abdomen firmly “tucked in.” It will soon become a muscle habit, and the muscles will do it without conscious effort. This helps to keep the internal organs in the right place, and the gentle pressure tones and stimulates them to normal activity.
