MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB

PICNIC SHOOT AT WESTERN LAKE. An invitation has been received from Mr N. Matthews, president of the Western Lake Out-door Miniature Rifle Club, by the Masterton Miniature Rifle Club to hold a picnic shoot at Western Lake on Sunday, February 5.

Mr Matthews is a very keen out-door miniature rifle shot and his enthusiasm has been responsible for the building and equipping of a very fine out-door range and the formation of the Western Lake Club.

There is a movement by enthusiasts in Wellington to hold the New Zealand Out-door Championships again this year, and it has been suggested that these should be fired on the Western Lake Range. It seems somewhat strange that out of the hundreds of small-bore rifle shooters who compete indoor during the winter months, veryfew carry on during the summer at outdoor ranges where the sport requires more skill and judgment, and also gives to the shooter a chance of securing International honours in the famous Dewar International teams match against England, America, Canada, South Africa and Australia.

The Masterton Club is fortunate to secure this invitation from Mr Mathews for the surroundings at Western Lake amidst native bush with good swimming facilities make this spot ideal for a shooting picnic. The invitation is not only confined to members of the Masterton Club, but is extended to all their friends, to past supporters of the club, and to any one who is interested in small-bore rifle shooting. It is considered advisable that those who intend to be present should take their own food, cups, etc. Further information can be had from Mr H. K. Smith. Mr H. King or Mrs King.
