NUTRITION STUDIES

AUSTRALIA LEADING WORLD. LEAGUE OF NATIONS’ REPORT. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright GENEVA, January 16. Australia leads the world in the fight against malnutrition, declares a report by the League of Nations on nutrition which embraces a survey of 16 countries, excluding Italy, Germany, Russia and Japan. More than 3300 children were examined throughout Australia, and only 17.9 per cent showed evidence of unsatisfactory nutrition. The report urged each country to analyse its foodstuffs more extensively and emphasised the need for intensifying propaganda instructing people to eat. correct food. The average diet in most countries appeared to be ill-bal-anced and inadequate. In some, so-called surplus agricultural products were exported while the people starved. Conditions in Britain compared favourably, but deficiencies in fats were admitted. An international standard for bread was strongly urged.
