WELL TO THE FORE

TROUSERS AND SHORTS. As always, trousers and shorts are well to the fore in the holiday season. Conventional man-tailored slacks are now made with a built-up waistline. Three-quarter length trousers are something quite new; these are the length of an ordinary street dress and look rather like coolie trousers. The newest shorts are finished with sailor fastenings—the legs have turnedup cuffs like slacks. Beach coats are of all lengths, varying from above the knees down to the ankles.

Some are designed on the practical lines of sports clothes, like dresses which open up the front. Others are more decorative and are made in gaily coloured washing materials, and could pass for house-coats. A very practical coat to include in the summer wardrobe is one in severe-ly-tailored pique. This type is made upon the lines of any, good sports coat and can, if necessary, be worn over street frocks as well as swim suits. You will also see bathing wraps of towelling; these are quite often printed in gay flower designs. - For all-purpose play-suit a one-piece, consisting of shirt and shorts, with a tie-on skirt, is one of the most practical ensembles you can find. A backless beach dress also comes into the picture. These one-piece dresses are generally accompanied by a matching or contrasting jacket.
