TENNIS MATCH. A WIN FOR CARTERTON. ("Times-Age” Special.) The Carterton Bowling Green Club and the Carrington Park team played a B grade match on the Carrington Park courts on Saturday, the result of which was a win for Carterton by 13 sets, 152 games to Carrington Park’s 11 sets, 143 games. k The following were the scores (Car- ' terton players mentioned first in each instance):— Men’s singles: I. Cricket Match. Matarawa and Martinborough teams played a cricket match over the weekend, the game ending in a win for Matarawa by an innings and 103 runs. The first innings was played before lunch time. Martinborough being disposed of for 29 runs, Johns being the highest scorer with 9. Matarawa then took the crease and ran up the good score of 193 before being disposed of. The chief scorers were G. Parker 43 r not out, W. Dunce 30 retired, T. Workman 25, P. Burgess 24, M. Eves 24. In their second essay Martinborough made 63, of which Murphy compiled 27. The chief bowlers for Matarawa were T. Workman 3 for 5. W. Dunce 2 for 2 and L. Gallon 2 for 12. The visitors were entertained at afternoon tea and left for home well pleased with the day’s sport. The Carterton and Masterton Post and Telegraph teams played a match at the weekend which ended in a win for Carterton by 29 runs on the first innings. Carterton made 124 and Masterton 95. Berry (24) and J. Steffert (33) were chief scorers for Carterton. The game was played on the Solway Showgrounds.
Darvill-lllingworth Shield.
The Carterton junior eleven journeyed to Masterton on Saturday and maintained their unbeaten record when they defeated the St Patrick's Old Boys junior team in a match for the Dar-vill-Illingworth Shield. Winning the toss St Patrick’s Old Boys elected to bat and compiled 119 before being dismissed. of which Green and Donnelly made 38 not out and 54 respectively.
Carterton’s innings produced 196. Fitzgerald played well and was undefeated for 68. The other double figure batsmen were Fisher 24. Thompson 33, Harp 10 and Ward not out 28. Fitzgerald’s store included ten 4’s, four 25s and the remainder- singles. Donnelly, for Masterton, hit two 6’s and six 4's among his score. Carterton won by 2 wickets and 77 runs. Personals. Miss Lily Lcnihan. of Wellington, is spending holidays with her parents in Belvedere Street. The many friends of Mrs Alex J. Lindop will regret to learn she has found it necessary to enter the Masterton Hospital for treatment. The death occurred in the Lewisham Hospital. Wellington, on Saturday, of Mrs J. VickerstafT <nee Lena Reid). t who was well known in Carterton. * having been born in this district 48 years ago. She has been a patient sufferer for a long time. The late Mrs VickerstafT is survived by her husband and two daughters resident in Palmerston North. Bowling Contests. The Carterton green was well patafternoon and an enjoyable time was ronised by local bowlers on Saturday spent. The semi-final in the champion rink competition was played and considerable interest was centred in the game. The final will take place on Saturday next when Tucker’s rink will meet Hughan’s four. An afternoon tea was pro-

Clubs under the jurisdiction of the Wairarapa Centre will need to speed up their games for the various competitions to take place during February and March. The Champion singles will be played on Saturday, February 18 and 25; champion pairs on March 4 and 11, and the rink games on March 18 and 25. Booth Cup games will be recommenced on January 28 in lieu of February 4 on account of the annual fixture with Manawatu Centre on the Carterton and Masterton greens. Next week-end Carterton will endeavour to send eight rinks to play a friendly game with Pahiatua.
