CHILD BADLY BURNED

OIL STOVE EXPLOSION.

(By Telegraph—Preps Association.)

WHANGAREI, This Day.

A seven-ydar-old boy, Evan Moran, received serious burns as a result of methylated spirit exploding when a primus burner was being lit last night. Mr Reuben Moran, of Beresford Street, Russell, after igniting the spirit in the pan of the primus, left the room for a few minutes. When he returned, he thought the spirit had completely burned out and added more from a bottle. This immediately exploded, throwing flames into the face of his son, who was watching. The boy, whose clothing was ignited, was terrified and fled. Mr Moran pursued his son, tore the flaming clothing from him and wrapped him in blankets. Severely burned, the child was brought to ihe Whangarei Hospital for treatment.
