A high jump equalling the best previous performance by a New Zealander marked a handicap meeting conducted by the Wellington Amateur Athletic Centre at Hataitai Park on Saturday. E. Phillips, who lias been jumping at. or near the 6ft. mark throughout the season, was credited with a leap of 6ft. Bin.. equalling M. H. Chadwick’s best New Zealander's performance last year. Recognition of Phillips’s effort as a record was precluded by the removal of the bar before the height could be measured by a steel tape. At the uprights the bar was raised to 6ft. Ilin., but when the measurement in the centre was made the height was given as 6ft. Ilin. The probable help given by a strong wind and the absence of a surveyor to make the necessary measurements of the bar and the take-off were other factors against the application for a record.
