“FITNESS WEEK”
ORGANISATION IN MASTERTON.
MEETING ON WEDNESDAY.
Representatives of all sports and recreation bodies, educational institutions and musical and dramatic organisations are invited by the Mayor. Mr T. Jordan, to attend a meeting to be held in the Municipal Buildings at 8 p.m. on Wednesday next, when the organisation of a -Physical Fitness Week” from February 18 to 25 will be fully discussed. It is proposed to set up a district committee which will decide the lines along which the week will be observed in Masterton.
All forms of sport and art will be catered for in a comprehensive programme. which will be spread over a week. It has been suggested that no great expenditure need be involved and that on the contrary there are possibilities of a considerable profit arising out of the various displays and sports gatherings. The Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon W. E. Parry, has stated that any profits made should be kept as funds by the district committee under the Physical Welfare and Recreation Act. The proposal is being taken up enthusiastically in other centres and it is hoped that there will be a large and representative attendance at Wednesday night’s meeting so that an immediate start may be made with the preliminary organisation work. The value of such a week will no doubt be fully recognised by the bodies concerned and it is hoped that they will be ready to co-operate whole-heartedly in making Masterton’s week an outstanding success.
