SHOW LAMB JUDGING. LONDON RESULTS. (“Times-Age” Special.) The following are the results of the London judging of the lambs exhibited at the recent Wairarapa Show: —Pen 694, T. Moorcock, Ist (unplaced at Show, 6th in Wellington). Pen 713. Arch. Clark. 2nd (unplaced at Show, unplaced at Wellington). Pen 687, J. M. Jury, 3rd (Ist at Show, 2nd in Wellington). Mr and Mrs F. O'Keefe have returned to Carterton after a pleasant vacation in Woodville. Mr and Mrs Fossett Senr., who have been away during the Christmas and New Year holidays, returned to Car-, terton yesterday. Mr Ivan Aplin has arrived from Suva, and is staying with his parents, Mr and Mrs Lyndon Aplin, Tyne Street. Mr Meyrick was admitted to Croydon Hospital on Wednesday night suffering from a fractured arm, as the result of an accident when a tractor backfired. Mr R. O. Goodman, who has been on the staff of the Carterton Post Office for the past six months, left yesterday morning on transfer to Hunterville. He will be succeeded by Mr C. F. Smith, of Wellington, who will commence duties on January 21. Mr and Mrs Muir, of Queensland, who are relations of Mr P. Jamieson, of Matarawa, and who have been spending holidays at Matarawa, left for Wellington yesterday. Mr Muir is headmaster of a school under the Queensland Education Board, and is on a holiday tour of New Zealand. Farewell to Mr A. Woolfe. On Wednesday evening a large number of friends of Mr A. Woolfe gathered at the residence of Mr and Mrs Keith Reid to bid him farewell on the eve of his departure for Levin. A very enjoyable evening was spent in song and story. The health of the guest was toasted in bumpers, and regret was expressed that such a good sport was leaving'the district. Football and other sporting bodies will miss his services. The gathering closed with the singing of “He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” and “Auld Lang Syne.” Carrington Park v. Carterton. The following will represent Carrington Park B team to play a match with Carterton on the Park courts on Saturday:— Messrs H. Parker, W. Sewell, C. Jensen, A. McLean, M. Parker, G. Udy; Mrs M. Parker, Mrs H. Parker, Mrs C. Jensen, Misses S. Copeland, R. Hopkins, A. Williams. Heavy Wind Storm. One of the heaviest wind storms recorded in the Matarawa district occurred on Wednesday night.. Practically throughout the night the wind blew with gale force. Hay that had been cut and left in the paddocks suffered considerably and on Thursday morning farmers were concerned as to the amount of damage that had been wrought. They found limbs of trees broken off and scattered in all directions. What hay that was left in many places was piled up against wire fences in plantations. Although trees and hay fields suffered no other damage is reported. Hay crops in the Dalefield district in the vicinity of Brooklyn Road also suffered as the result of the gale. Cricket Match. At the weekend a cricket match will be played at Matarawa between a cricket eleven of Matarawa and a Martinborough team. Bowling Competitions. Further competitions in connection with the club championships have been played as under: — Colts singles: A. Thompson defeated T. Lynch. 21/18; A. Thompson defeated W. Bird, 24/15.

Handicap pairs: Hughan and Newbould (s.) beat Thompson and Thompson (s), 24/18; Robertson and Tucker (s) beat G. Steven and DeLacey (s) 27/13.

DeLacey Buttons: Last evening Harrington and Riggs (s) stalled off the sixth challenge for the DeLacey Buttons by defeating Kilmister and Newbould (s) after a very close and interesting game by 20/17. Champion Fours: The following, is the draw for the champion rinks on Saturday:— Barber plays Tuckei, Hughan a bye. Building Society. The monthly meeting of Wairarapa Terminating Building Society was held in the P. and A. Society's building last evening, Mr L. H. Smart presiding and the following directors also being present, Messrs G. Hughan. J A. B. Lawrence, J. Steel, H. M. B. Trapp and L. J. Fairbrother. Mrs S. Swan and Mr D. McMinn, shareholders, were also present. An apology was received from Mr N. C. C. Shepherd.

Sympathetic reference was made to the death of the late secretary, Mr N. R. Armstrong, and it was decided to place on record the services rendered to the society by deceased. A vote of condolence with Mrs Armstrong and 'relatives was carried in silence. Two tenders for £3OO were accepted. one from Mr D. McMinn (£BO for £300) and the other from Mr N. C. C. Shepherd (£66 for £300). It was decided to hold an appropria-

tion for £6OO by sale in a month’s time.

It was resolved to invite applications for the position of secretary to the society. VAUGHAN TENNIS BUTTONS. HOLDERS DEFEATED. A challenge match was played on the Carterton tennis courts yesterday afternoon when the challengers, Messrs H. Parker and M. Parker, of the Carrington tennis club, defeated the holders, Messrs 1. Bond and R. Barrett by 1/6. 6/3, 6/2. The trophies played for were donated by Mr W. Vaughan for competition between members of the Carterton and Carrington Park Clubs.
