COUNTY WORK

GOOD PROGRESS WITH WERAITI DEVIATION. BRIDGE PROGRAMME HELD UP. Excellent progress is being made by the Masterton County Council with the construction of the road deviation at Weraiti. Man-power to a large extent has been replaced by machinery, and it is anticipated that the job will be completed by the end of March. An early start is to be made with the reconstruction of the Bennett’s Hill to Taueru section of the Masterton-Castle-point Main Highway, which also includes the Taueru deviation. The bulk of this work will also be done by modern road-making machinery. The council also has a big bridge programme in view, but it is being held up on account of finance.
