JAPAN DEFIANT
WILL RESIST ECONOMIC PRESSURE
AND RETALIATE EFFECTIVELY
ACORDING TO NEWSPAPERS.
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. TOKIO, January 11.
Japan will retaliate effectively against any economic measures by Britain and America against Japan, declares “Nichi Nichi, Shimbun” which quotes the Foreign Minister, M. Arita. as saying that Britain and America should be most careful against exerting any economic pressure on Japan, since they must realise the extent to which retaliatory measures may be taken by Japan against their interests in China.
Other newspapers throughout Japan print similar reports, some asserting that M. Arita told the United States that Japan was determined to establish a bloc comprising China, Japan and Manchukuo which would be capable of reconstructing East Asia.
