An eighty mile an hour cyclone al Port Hedland (on the north-west coast of Australia) has raised such seas that many houses in the town have been washed away. The town, which is built in a low-lying area, close to the sea. is now isolated.

An urgent wireless appeal for assistance. saying: "Hedland is surrounded by the sea. The wind is increasing, and the sea is rising. Please endeavour to get a message to Broome, Perth, or anywhere possible.” was picked up by the Balfour Downs Station late yesterday afternoon.
