PRESERVING GOOD LOOKS
HINTS FOR THE HOUSEWIFE. If your daily work keeps you at home, whether the home be yours or somebody else’s, you are certain to need beauty products and treatment that cater for your special problems. Let us start in the kitchen. If you cook well your family and their friends will be your devoted slaves, even though the heat from the oveh has played havoc with your complexion and the necessary tasting while cooking has put your figure into the outsize class. The complexion can be guarded by avoiding the use of cream under powder during the day, as this helps to cook the skin while standing over an oven. Use a liquid powder foundation. The trick when putting it on is to be as sparing as possible. It needs only about three drops to cover the whole face, as each drop can be smoothed over an astonishing amount of skin. The powder dusted over this must be very fine. A good make-up tip for the evening is to use lettuce green foundation cream and lettuce green powder, as this tones down a florid appearance. Rouge should not be used; lipstick should be as light as possible with no orange undertone. Cleansing milk is better than ordinary soap or cleansing cream for complexions exposed to a hot, greasj/ atmosphere. These preparations should always be rinsed off thoroughly afterwards, as they contain a certain amount of soap. A new cream, including milk of magnesia, is one of the best for these complexions. It should be followed by a light application of skin tonic. Those who have very little money to spend on beauty preparations can make themselves a good tonic by mixing two parts witchhazel with two parts rosewater and one part distilled water; bottle for 48 hours, when it will be ready for use. After housework is finished the face should be cleaned thoroughly with a light lather of good complexion soap, using lukewarm water and a rubber sponge; or else with a cleansing milk. At night, after a thorough cleansing, a light skin food should be rubbed in briskly with a clean rubber nail brush, then wiped off thoroughly and a tonic applied.
