CONFERENCE TO BE HELD IN FEBRUARY
AT INSTANCE OF WORKERS’ . UNION. PROBLEM OF ACCOMMODATION. | (Bv Telegraph—Press Association i ; WELLINGTON. This Day. i Mr A. COok, secretary ot the New, Zealand Workers' Union, reports that the conference the Union has been seeking to discuss the shortage of farm labour and its solution will open in Wellington on February 22. His union, realising the shortage, instructed him to apply through the Minister of Labour to the Farmers’ Union and the Sheepowners' Federation for a conference. This had been done and the Minister sought to bring the parties together. The Farmers’ bodies suggested that the conference should be postponed till seasonal work is over and should take place at the end of February or in March. He felt certain that if the Farmers’ Union representatives would meet the representatives of the- workers. the parties, would be able to reach an understanding on at least one tallimportant matter—State assistance for providing suitable accommodation foi farm labourers and their families in farming areas.
