CAUGHT BY ENGINE
SIGNWRITER FATALLY INJURED, WHILE WORKING ON BRIDGE. (’Ey Telegraph—Press Association.) MARTON, This Day. Struck by an engine on the overhead railway bridge at the Wellington Road cressing at 4.50 last evening, Kenneth O’Neill, a signwriter of Feilding. a married man, aged 45, received injuries which proved fatal two hours later.
Mr O'Neill. was engaged, on a signwriting contract on the bridge for a local firm and failed till 100 late to notice the approach of a single engine, no train being due. A high wind was blowing at the time. The unfortunate man ran for safety, but tripped on a sleeper, the cowcatcher carrying him the length of the bridge, and hurling him down an embankment. His sustained fractured ribs and concussion, and was conveyed to a local private hospital. He leaves a widow and four children.
