REMARKABLE GOLF ROUND

A. J. SHAW BREAKS OWN RECORD.

A BRILLIANT EXPOSITION.

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day

Playing in a fourball match on the Hutt links yesterday. A. J. Shaw, the unattached Wellington professional, broke his own record for the course of 67 by doing a remarkable round of 63.

The Hutt links have never been in bettor condition than they are at present. The frequent rains during the spring and summer have allowed a thick sward of grass on the fairways, and the greens are in perfect condition. Shaw, who has won the New Zealand open championship seven times, and lhe New Zealand professional title six times, was able to show his remarkable skill on the perfect course. Playing with woods and irons his usual long-hitting game, he was never off the line, and his putting on the perfect greens was accuracy itself. It was one of the most brilliant expositions of golfing skill ever seen on a Dominion course. His card included 10 threes. 7 fours, and 1 five. His score of 63 was 11 strokes better than the standard scratch score of the course, which is 74. Out in 32, Shaw came home in 31.
