A Bearded Man’s Ship.
Sailors who serve in the non-mag-netic research ship Research, now being built for the Admiralty, may be .compelled to grow beards. Mr J. J. Sautter, managing director of Messrs Philip and Son. the builders, said that substitutes have been found for nearly every steel article required. But experts are baffled by the steel razor. So far they have been unable to find a non-ferric substitute.
Progressive Farming Policy. “One thing which, in my opinion, is noteworthy above a great many others in New Zealand is the progressive farming policy,” said the Rev M. K. Gilmour, of Sydney, who arrived by the Wanganella yesterday to spend a short holiday. “I have noticed, from time to time, the careful nurturing of pastures and a long-sighted method in the selection of stock,” he added. “In both directions, the Dominion is well in advance of Australia,”
