With the object of curbing speculation against sterling, the Bank of England, at the instance of the Treasury, has requested banks and bullion dealers to refrain from gold transactions for future delivery, not to facilitate loans against gold and to scrutinise foreign exchange operations with a view to eliminating undesirable transactions.
