STOCK MARKET
EKETAHUNA SALE. SPIRITED BIDDING. The N.Z. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., report: —We held our first weekly sale of the New Year yesterday when we submitted a yarding of 1500 odd lambs to a good, attendance of the public. In view of the present state of the markets, and the continued retrogression of schedules of fats both breeders and grazers were curious to see how the market for store lambs would open, and as yesterday’s sale was the first big offering of lambs in this district, keen interest was taken in the yarding. Compared with the corresponding sale last year, the quality of the yarding was disappointing and few lines of really good lambs were available, due .to the weather conditions since lambing. Buyers were present from all local districts, and Manawatu, and although the sale opened quietly with restricted bidding, competition gradually became keener with the result that some really good sales were recorded. Top price for b.f. lambs was secured for a very good line for rape purposes on account of Mr A. E. Brittian. In the w.f. lambs section Messrs Corrigan Estate topped the sale with a nice pen of good conditioned shorn lambs. Compared with the best lines, small-and cull lambs sold exceptional!y well. Despite the restricted prices offering, vendors accepted the reduced prices from the commencement and with the exception of one pen we report a total clearance as under: — B.F. lambs: A/c A. E. Brittian, 14s; a/c C. W. Dagg, medium do, 13s, small 9s 4d; a/c J. M. Hull, medium do, 12s 7d; a/c C. F. Larsen, shorn do, 11s 7d; a/c other vendors, small, 12s 3d, 9s 8d; cull do, 7s Id, 7s 4d to 6s 6d. Wether lambs: A/c Corrigan Estate, shorn, 12s 8d; a/c L. Christensen, 12s 4d; a/c W. J. Manser, 12s 3d; a/c S. Corlett, Ils 9d; a/c H. E. Dunn, woolly Ils, 11s 2d; a/c T. R. Hancock, shorn. 11s 2d; a/c H. H. Allen, do 11s Id; a/c Wm. Matthews, Ils 6d; cull and small lambs, 8s Id, 8s Bd, 6s 6d to 6s 3d. Ewe lambs: Small shorn, Ils 8d to 13s 9d; woolly, Ils lOd to 9s 4d. Cattle: Cow on drop, £4. DALGETY & CO., LTD. Messrs Dalgety & Co., Ltd., report on their weekly Eketahuna sale as follows:—A good yarding of all classes of lambs came forward and were offered to a large attendance. This being the first yarding of lambs to b< offered in the new season, general interest was shown in the fixture, farmers being anxious to gain an idea of store values. Bidding throughout was keen, but purchasers’ ideas of values were not high. However, vendors met the market, and a total clearance was effected under the hammer as follows: —Black face lambs, 13s to 14s; shorn w.f. wether lambs, Ils to 12s 8d; medium do. 9s to 10s 6d; medium woolly wether lambs, 13s; small do., 7s to 8s 9d; small shorn ewe lambs, Ils to 12s.
