The garrison and equipment to be established on Penang Island this year will embrace sappers, gunners, Indian troops, medium and big calibre guns and the most modern aircraft defences. The building of batteries and barracks already are under way and when completed Penang Island is likely to be one of the strongest defended British outposts in the Far East.
