NAVAL STRENGTH
OF PRIMARY IMPORTANCE TO AUSTRALIA
AIR DEFENCE IN SECOND PLACE. VIEWS OF LORD STRABOLGI. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright SYDNEY. January 5. Lord Strabolgi, who arrived here today en route for New Zealand, told a “Sun” interviewer today: “I put naval defence first for Australia and air defence second. You have tremendous trade routes to safeguard. “I think Australia’s most urgent air defence need is a powerful fleet of long-range bombing and righting aircraft. I also think that Sydney would provide a better base for battleships than Singapore.”
Lord Strabolgi leaves for New Zealand aboard the Awatea tomorrow.
