IN FIRST PROFESSIONAL MATCH.
EASY COMMAND OF GAME
By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright NEW YORK, January 3.
Playing the first match of his professional career. Budge today beat Vines, 6/3, 6/4, 6/2, at Madison Square Garden, before a record crowd of 17.000. Vines showed himself defective in the elementaries of the game, his forehand being weak and his backhand lamentable. He led 4/3 in the second set, but Budge again took command and overwhelmed him with the force and accuracy of his shots from both sides of the court and from overhead.
