DALADIER IN TUNIS
FIRST VISIT BY FRENCH PREMIER EXPRESSIONS OF LOYALTY. declaration by the bey. By Telegraph—Press Association —Copyright. (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) TUNIS. January 3. For the first time in history, a French Premier has visited the ancestral home of the Bey of Tunis. M. Daladier was accorded a tumultuous reception when he went ashore from the cruiser Foch, inspected the coastal forts and drove to the city, which was placarded with expressions of loyalty. He reviewed a spectacular march of 25.000 Colonial troops, while squadrons of aircraft flew overhead. M. Daladier told the Bey that France would continue to contribute towards the development of Tunis and give her all the protection she needed. The Bey replied that Tunisians would give infinite thanks to France and show their gratitude and attachment to her. SEVERAL ARRESTS MINOR ANTI-FRENCH DEMONSTRATION. ITALIAN PREMISES CLOSED. Several members of the National Party were arrested and there were minor anti-French demonstrations outside the Bey’s Palace as M. Daladier was departing. Italian business men closed their premises in obedience to orders.
