HAIR STYLES
FEMININITY IS SUPREME. STYLES ON THE UP AND UP. This season ushers in a new type of old time hair beauty. Styles are on the up and up, with curls perched on top of the head. Ears are showing, hair lines are natural, and femininity is supreme. The Edwardian styles are designed to give softness to the features, but whether you go all Edwardian or otherwise, you will have to alter your style of hairdressing, just as much as was the case when long hair went out of fashion.
The great advantage of these new fashions is that they are not based on a stereotyped design, and we can change our style to suit either our personality, features or taste. Providing the style carries an upward trend, shows the ears, and has bunches of curls along the forehead and front of the head, then will you be considered fashionable.
These new styles do not demand drastic cutting. If you have been wearing a “Page Boy” coiffure, you will be at liberty to try any amount of these new styles. You can have curls all over your head simply by brushing the hair tip from the nape of the neck and having strong, permanent curls in the ends. Or you can sweep your hair back from the forehead with a graceful sweep so that the front curls start almost on the crown of the head and mingle with those which have been brought up from the back of the head. Another variation which you can adopt is to brush the hair up into a roll, in the opposite direction to that of a “Page Boy,” making the roll run from the temples right around to the back of the head. The severeness of the style is counteracted by setting the top piece of the head into either puff rolls or curls. Partings Important. Youi* hair partings will play as important a 'part as 'the curls, and it is here that you can allow your individuality full reign. Side partings, middle partings, parting oh each side, and even triangular partings can be worn. Naturally you will still have as many, if not more, permanent waves as usual, but whereas previously You demanded a fairly tight wave, now you will require loose, natural waves with tight, curly ends. In fact, it should be impossible to say whether your hair owes its soft undulations to Nature or the permanent wave.
The secrets of hair beauty -are simple. All that is necessary is a good permanent wave, attention to the hair cleanliness, -arid a suitable coiffure. Even though you may Mot have a lot of money to spend bn your-hair, you can at least rnake your dressing individual. No matter what type of face you have, you can still indulge in the latest style of hairdressing, and at the same time wear a coiffure which is softening -to your features. Simple Guides. The following new simple rules will help to guide .you in the selection of a suitable method of acquiring head beauty. Long, thin faces should have a centre parting. The hair is then taken back from the forehead with a roll on each side of the head, and small clusters of curls are made over the ears, so that balance is acquired. This type of dressing will soften the angular lines of the face and make it appear more plump than is actually the case. Wide, large faces should have a side parting. The hair should be combed right back from the face and set in a roll, turning inwards, which will go right around the head. This type of dressing demands practically straight hair with tight, curly ends, although if you think that it is too severe, you may have the slightest shadow wave just prior to the roll. High foreheads and oval faces should have a side parting, and the top layer of hair should be cut short so that curls can be set over the brow. Dare to be Different.
Thin faces which seem to disappear in the chinline, should have a side parting, and the hair should be allowed to curl softly about the face. This is one type of face on which it is difficult to wear an Edwardian style, as the hair must not be taken too far back from the face, but should be allowed to fall so that it is discernible each side of the throat-line.
Those who have a long throat-line and an average face will find that the new styles are very suitable. Either side or centre partings can be worn, and the hair taken right back and up from the face and neck. Those who have been wearing “Page Boy” styles will find that this type of dressing is quite easy to accomplish. Those who have been wearing shorter hair styles may discover that the hair on the neckline is too short to carry upwards, and they will then either have to allow their hair to grow or completely forgo this style of dressing.
