The first two days of the Plunket Shield match between Otago and Auckland, being played on the Carisbrook ground, have sufficed to re-es-tablish the Otago side in firm favour with supporters of the province. By batting for most of the two days and scoring 427 and then capturing two of the most valuable Auckland wickets for only 53 runs in the last three-quar-ters of an hour today, it proved that its form of the Wellington match was actually too bad to be true. For Otago Mills scored 121, Robertson 73, Fraser 54, Moloney 48, Elmes 34. Knight 33, Uttley 17. In the Auckland team Whitelaw 0, and Wallace 35, are out, and Postles 11 and Pearson 3, are still in. WELLINGTON BEATEN. EASY WIN FOR CANTERBURY. ‘ CHRISTCHURCH. January 2. Canterbury secured a handsome win against Wellington in the Plunket Shield cricket match which was concluded early this afternoon at Lancaster Park, a day before it was scheduled to finish.

The Wellington first innings concluded oh Saturday for 209 runs, giving the home side a lead of 140 runs, a stand of 63 by J. A. Ongley and W. G. Rainbird being the best of the Wellington innings. A second-wicket partnership of 17 runs by F. W. Bellamy and J. L. Kerr and another of 77 for the fifth wicket were outstanding features of Canterbury’s second innings, which totalled 308. (Bellamy 69, Kerr, 66, Cromb 55, Anderson 38, Menzies 34 Webb 21).

Set with the task of making 449 to win in the fourth innings, Wellington were all out for 212, (Ell 41, Sheffield 38, Rainbird 30. Gallichan 27, Ongley 25. Pritchard 23, Tindill .11), and Cahterbury won by 236 runs.
