NEW YEAR’S EVE

OLD YEAR PASSES QUIETLY.

New Year's Eve was observed very quietly in Masterton. The passing of the old year and the arrival of the new was celebrated in traditional style by a gathering at the Post Office corner, the Masterton Municipal Band playing •‘Auld Lang Syne” and one or two other selections. Probably on account of the shopping night having been observed on the Friday, there were few people about on Saturday night and the conditions tyere comparable to those usually ruling on an ordinary Saturday night.
