MOTOR ACCIDENTS
COLLISION WITH TOWED CAR. WOMAN SENT TO HOSPITAL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) PALMERSTON N„ January 1. Three cars were involved in a collision at about noon today a mile on the Foxton side of Bainesse and Mrs Gertrude Alice Tunnicliffe, wife of Mr Cecil Tunnicliffe, school teacher at Kelvin Grove, Palmerston North, was taken to Palmerston North Hospital. Her condition is satisfactory.
It is understood that a car owned bj r Mr Greer, Tiritea/was being towed to Palmerston North and when passing a stationary car on the road a third vehicle driven by Mr Tunnicliffe from the direction of Palmerston North, collided with the disabled car. Both vehicles were damaged extensively but Mr Greer and his passenger and Mr Tunnicliffe escaped injury. MOTOR CYCLE HITS TRAIN. RIDER SERIOUSLY INJURED. CHRISTCHURCH, January 2. Mr Harry Blanchard, married, 6 Konini Street, Riccarton, received serious injuries when the motor-cycle he was riding struck a carriage on a special train to Christchurch from Greymouth on a crossing at Islington about 4 p.m. today. Mr Blanchard was taken to Christchurch Hospital by a St. John ambulance. He has a fractured arm, fractured ribs, and shock. His condition showed slight improvement tonight. COLLISION WITH TRUCK. MOTOR MECHANIC INJURED. GISBORNE, January 2. A motor mechanic, Mr D. N. Wilkins, aged 18, received a broken leg and arm on Saturday evening when his motor-cycle was involved in a collision with a light truck driven by Mr J. B. Jefferd in Tokomaru Bay township. TENNIS CHAMPION INJURED. CAR GOES OVER BANK. CHRISTCHURCH, January 2.
Miss Margaret Beverley, of Matamata, champion woman tennis player of New Zealand, received injuries to her right forearm when a car in which she was travelling skidded and went over a bank in attempting to pass another car on the hill between Charteris Bay and Allandale yesterday. She was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital at 8.45 p.m. Several stitches were inserted in her right wrist and she is suffering considerably from shock. Though her condition is not at all serious, she will be unable to participate further in the New Zealand tennis championship tournament.
