TE WHARAU

ANNUAL SCHOOL PICNIC. (“Times-Age” Special.) . The annual school picnic was held on breaking-up day in Mr F. Read’s paddock, and although the weather was showery a very enjoyable time was spent by all. A special effort was made this year, and the result must be very gratifying indeed to the committee who worked hard and saw the splendid results of their work. Father Christmas visited the hall in the afternoon and gave every child in the district a present. The school sports were carried on in the afternoon with the following results: Boys’ hurdles, J. Cotter, 1; F. Cotter, 2; Junior boys hurdles, A. Bannister, 1; J Bannister, 2; boys 50yds, F. Cotter,jjl; J Chapman, 2; girls 50 yards, L. Winter 1; H. Winter, 2; junior girls, A. Latham, 1; N. Bannister, 2; junior boys, R. Foreman 1; J. Latham 2; 75 yards boys, J. Chapman, 1; F. Cotter, 2; girls race, K. Latham, 1; N. Bannister, 2; tyre race, E. Bannister, 1; N. Bannister 2. Many other events were held and thoroughly enjoyed by the children. Other events held resulted as follow: —Girls, race, E. Bannister, 1; P. Schofield, 2; married ladies’ race, Miss F. Latham, 1; Mrs I. McGregor, 2; Men’s race, S. Gray, 1; married men’s race, F. Latham, 1; chain stepping, ladies, Miss Dickason, 1; men, S. Gray, 1; nail driving, Mrs E. Nitz (ladies), Mr J. Bannister (men). After the field events were held an adjournment was made to the hall, where afternoon tea was dispensed, and much appreciated by all. The prizes for the year were then presented. Personal. The friends of Mrs McKersey, who met with a serious car accident, will be pleased to know that she is making as good progress as can be expected. The child, Irene, who was also an inmate of the hospital, has been able to return home.
