QUIET NIGHT
SMALLER CROWD THAN USUAL LAST EVENING. GOOD BUSINESS RECORDED IN DECEMBER. The fact that the late shopping night last evening did not fall on New Year's Eve probably accounted for the smaller assemblage in Queen Street than is usual on such occasions. Moreover, the festivities associated with New Year’s Eve were absent and the town was remarkably quiet. The separation of late shopping from New Year’s Eve will probably mean that tonight likewise will be a quiet one of its kind. Shopkeepers report that trade last night, was comparable to that of an ordinary Friday night. On the other hand, the month of December, in many cases, had been the best for several years. .
