PLANT QUESTING
A HOLIDAY IDEA. All keen gardeners are on the lookout during their holidays for new or unfamiliar plants to add to their collections. Wherever we go, we are sure to come across plants that excite our interest and arouse in us a desire to grow them. Experience, however, has taught many that they should consider well choosing. The flora of seaside gardens is in a large measure quite distinct from that of inland gardens. There are, however, many of the plants which flourish near the coast which can be found for them. The plants we admire most at the seaside, are those which thrive because of. the milder and more humid atmosphere. Obviously then, to grow these in inland gardens, we must choose sheltered positions for them. Gardening experts are forming the opinion that the secret of growing many plants which have a reputation for tenderness, is that their success is not due so much to the aspect as to the fact that they are sheltered from morning sun. The damaging effects of frost are thus lessened considerably. When choosing positions for plants discovered while on holiday, let us bear this fact in mind. At the homes of friends visited at holiday time we will find plants new to us and a happy way of adding to the beautiy and romance of our gardens is to grow plant treasures “discovered” while on holiday. .Make your holiday a plant-questing one, and in time you will acquire a collection of plants that will revive memories of the places you visited. There is no better method of commemorating a holiday.
