PLUNKET SHIELD
NARROW WIN FOR AUCKLAND. FINE INNINGS BY CROMB. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH. December 28. A grand innings by I. B. Cromb for 126 not out was a feature of Canterbury’s great recovery in the second innings of the Plunket Shield cricket match against Auckland, which was concluded at Lancaster Park today. Canterbury’s innings closed for 292, leaving Auckland 288 to get. to secure an outright win. The fall of three wickets for 44 runs greatly improved Canterbury’s chances of a win, but rain again took a hand in the match and severely handicapped the bowlers. When play ended Auckland had made 166 runs for the loss of three wickets, and so won the match by five runs on the first innings. The weather in the early part of the day was fine and the wicket was ini good order for batting. Scores: — CANTERBURY. First innings 254
