Lady Anderson, wife of a member of the House of Commons, Sir Alan And- j erson, escaped from a fire at Notgrove Manor, Cotswold, lowering herself I down from a window with knotted sheets. A maid ran through a snowstorm and gave the alarm. The fire engine three times struck snowdrifts. The house, which for centuries was the home of Dick Whittington’s descendants, was severely damaged.
