BASEBALL

WAIRARAPA ASSOCIATION . FORMED. The Wairarapa Baseball Association was officially formed at a meeting last night, the second of two general meetings held as preliminaries to the active commencement of the game in this district. Mr J. W. Baybutt presided over an attendance of nearly 30 intending players. Rules for the management of. the game were formally adopted and provision was made for the election of .not more than 20 honorary members, nonplayers who wish to assist the game generally and who do not desire to join any particular club. It was reported that six clubs are actually being formed at present, with a membership in all approximating 100. Arrangements had been made for the lease of part of the hockey ground in front of the Hospital and practices would commence immediately. It was hoped to take full advantage of an offer by Mr Vanston. president of the Wellington Umpires’ Association, to coach players over the Christmas weekend. The following officers were elected: President, Mr P. Fagan; vice-presi-dents, Messrs W .H. Saunders, H. A. Harcombe, J. Bradbury; management committee, Messrs J. D. Baybutt (chairman). M. Curtain, F. Bodie, K. Mills, A. MacFarlane, E. Handy, J. Welch, J. Claridge (hon treasurer) and N. Parsonson (hon secretary).
