ICE CREAM FOR SCHOLARS.
1 J}ESIDES being assured ol' a rapturous welcome from the children concerned, some ol' whom no doiibt will Feel that at last a dream is coming true, the proposal that ice cream should be supplied to school pupils in place of milk appears to have undoubted claims to consideration from a strictly practical standpoint, at all events in areas in which a supply of milk in approved sanitary conditions cannot readily or conveniently be arranged. In this matter and in others, the Alasterton Borough Inspector, Air T. A. Russell, has shown himself a man of resource and enterprise. Amongst other'things, Air Russell has secured for, Alasterton a supply of milk from T.B. tested herds. That is perhaps his most important individual achievement to dale, but his ice cream proposal may be expected to win for him a greater share of fame and renown, at all events amongst the members of the rising generation. Since it. is claimed that ice cream has a greater food value than milk and can be handled more easily and economically in sanitary conditions, most people no doubt will agree with the chairman of the Wairarapa Alilk Committee ( Air W. 11. Nicol) that an experiment in supplying ice cream to schools is well worth making. It is true that the experiment can hardly apply to more than the warmer months of the year. Even the most enthusiastic juvenile consumer would hardly welcome a daily ration of ice cream in the depth of winter, or if he or she did the results possibly might be unfortunate. No doubt, however, an approved supply of milk, or some satisfactory substitute, to school pupils could be arranged much more easily during the cold months than throughout the year,
