BRITAIN’S MEAT IMPORTS
STATEMENT BY MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Received This Day, 10.15 a.m.) LONDON, December 20. In the House of Commons, Mr W. S. Morrison, Minister of Agriculture, announced that the New Zealand and Australian Governments had been approached in regard to regulated increased imports of mutton and lamb to Britain from January 15. 1939. An early order was being issued whereby all imports of live sheep to Britain will be under licence. The Empire Meat Council's functions were being enlarged to enable it to undertake consideration of the supplies of mutton and lamb. The application of the proposed system to Eire also was being discussed.
