MARTINBOROUGH

TENNIS TOURNAMENT. ARRANGEMENTS FOR NEXT WEEK. (“Times-Age" Special.) The courts will be closed for play on Christmas Day in preparation for the annual tennis tournament. Many outside entries have been received, and well known players, such as B. A. Barrer (Christchurch), O. Bold. I. Willis, E. Ridyard (Wellington), L. Keedwell, Hawksworth and Hobson (Wairarapa) have signified their intention of being present. Local players will greatly minimise the work of the tournament committee by posting their entries early. Entries close on Thursday. The following ladies have kindly consented to act as tea hostesses during the afternoons of the tournament:— Monday, December 26, Mesdames Sievers, Ronalds, Ward. Colman and Roach; Tuesday 27, Mesdames Mason, W. B. Martin, Misses P. Stewart, 8.. and J. McLeod; Wednesday 28. Mesdames H. Blundell, Kershaw, A. B. Martin, Misses ’M. C. Martin and I. Jury; Thursday 29, Mesdames L. Chapman, E. B. Evans. F. McLeod. M. McLeod, J. Wall and Miss J. Kent. Morning teas are in charge of the younger members of the club, and any members willing to assist is asked tc notify Miss M. Ward. At a meeting of the committee it was decided that March 4 be regarded as tentative date for the return match with Kelburn on the Martinborough courts. A Sunday match with Masterton Park (players to come from the lower placed members of the club’s ladder) is to be arranged in the New Year, providing teams are available. The match with the Hutt team at Hutt and the return match with Newtown were left in abeyance. A vote of thanks was accorded to Miss M. Ward for her work in replacing the club flag that has been in continual use since the original opening of the courts.
