Housewives will bn well advised to take stock of the holiday period (hiring Christmas and New Year weeks, as whether the shops are open <>r closed they are still faced with Ihe problem of feeding the family, lor ''lone visitors. As this year, on account of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day falling on Sundays, the shops will be closed a day longer than usual, it will be necessary to lay in ample supplies. It is as well to remember that the late shopping night will be observed on Friday, both this week and next and the shops will close at noon on Saturday in each case, reopening the following Wednesday. These hours will be observed by practically all retailers, including grocers and butchers. Bread will be baked and delivered as usual on Saturday, but no further supplies will be available until Wednesday. Bakers’ shops will close at 6 p.m. on Saturday until 8 a.m. on Wednesday. Coal dealers will close on Friday until January 4.
