WANGAEHU SCHOOL
+ CHRISTMAS PARTY. (“Times-Age” Special.) The Wangaehu School Committee held a most enjoyable Christmas party on Thursday. After a programme of songs and choral verse speaking etc, by the school pupils, Mr A. Donald, a member of the Education Board, congratulated the the parents on their recent decision to consolidate with the Lansdowne School. After complimenting the pupils on their items, and display of Arts and Crafts work, he presented the following special prizes:—General Progress: Iris Wilson. Senior Arts and Crafts: Jean Buchanan. Junior Arts and Crafts: Patricia Holmwood. Geography and Nature Study Projects: Jean and Hazel Buchanan. Highest aggregate marks: Alison Mackay. Best in Preparatory Division: Barbara Graham. Agricultural Club’s Lamb Rearing Competition: Iris Wilson (first for Masterton district, second for Wairarapa). Merit Aggregate Certificates for Home and Farm Arts and Crafts Work: Jean Buchanan, Iris Wilson, Patricia Holmwood, Alison Mackay, Hazel Buchanan, Dawn Buchanan, Elizabeth McKay, Peter Macgillivray. The Chairman (Mr J. G. Mackay), after thanking Mr and Mrs Donald for their interest in the school, presented the teach (Miss M. Ross, M.A.) with a gift as a token of the parents’ appreciation. In replying, Miss Ross thanked the School Committee and parents for theij - willing and efficient co-operation during her term of office. Father Christmas then arrived and distributed from a gaily decorated Christmas Tree gifts, balloons and oranges to every child in the district. Ice cream, fruit, sweets, soft drinks and a delicious home made supper served by the ladies’ committee, brought to a close a very successful function.
