MEETING OF MASTERTON A. & P. SOCIETY.

HOME INDUSTRIES PRIZES.

The monthly meeting of the general committee of the Masterton A. and P. Association was held last night, the president, Mr P. R. Welch being in the chair.

The Wellington Baseball Association wrote expressing its appreciation of (he hospitality extended to the members of the four teams that visited Masterton recently, especially to the ladies who officiated at the refreshment table. The A. and P. Association later passed a vote of thanks to the ladies who had so generously assisted on the above occasion. Acting on the suggestion of the Masterton Collie Club, Mr Alex Meikle was appointed judge of the dog trials and working dogs.

It was reported that a ladies’ committee had obtained £7 17s in donations to the prize money for the home industries section with a view to increasing interest in this display. Mr Welch said the thanks of the Association were ~ due to the donors. Additional judges were appointed as follow: Hereford, Mr E. W. Barnett; Polled Angus, Mr J. F. Knight. Mr Compton reported on a proposal to provide better loading and unloading yards at the ram ring. The ram ring committee had fully considered the matter and he had been asked to bring the matter -before the general committee. He had received promises of donations of wirenetting and battens and he himself would give his labour. The cost of one yard, to hold 70 sheep would be about £5 or £6, and of two yards, to hold 140 sheep, about £lO. In view of the financial position of the Association it was decided to erect a temporary race only, connecting the two pens.
