A competition for export pigs on similar lines to the export lamb competitions which have proved so successful is to be organised in the new year by the Canterbury Agricultural and Pastoral Association in conjunction with the Canterbury District Pig Council. The Canterbury competition will be part of a Dominion show of export bacon pigs, which will be held in Whangarei next June, and assistance from the Agricultural and Pastoral Association was sought and granted at its meeting. After a deputation from the Pig Council had been received, it was decided to organise the competition. Mr L. Wright said that such a competition would be of the greatest, value, as there was a good deal of difference of opinion among breeders on the right type of pig for the British market, and the competitions would educate pig breeders. Mi- W. O. Rennie supported the competition, because, he said, the pig industry was becoming so important now that it should be fostered.
