The Hon P. Fraser, Minister of Education, returned to Wellington last night from Masterton. The Hon W. E. Parry, Minister of Internal Affairs, left Wellington for Auckland yesterday afternoon. Supt T. ,B. Clark, of the, Masterton Fire Brigade, is at present on annual holiday.

Among those present at the breakup ceremony of Wairarapa College.last night was Mr J. Robertson, M.P.., and Mrs Robertson.

The engagement is announced of Nancy Lucy, twin daughter of Mr and Mrs J. H. Payton, Mt Bruce Road, to David, son of Mrs T. Young and the late Mr T. Young, of Wellington.

Misses O. J. Shelton and J. Scott, who are leaving the staff of Wairarapa College this term, were the recipients yesterday of presentations from the pupils in recognition of their faithful services. The presentations were made by the head girl, Alison Davie. The interment of the late Mr Piripi Ihaka, of Taueru, took place at the Masterton Cemetery yesterday. Messrs Manning and Steen conducted the service of the Christian Sect. The pallbearers were Messrs A. Crawford, B. Page, W. Oliver, B. Loader, H. Loader and S. Ihaka.

At last night’s meeting of the Masterton A. & P. .Association a motion of condolence was passed with the relatives of the late Mr Joseph lorns, a former member of the Association who joined in the early days, with the family of the late Mrs R. Cooper, and with the relatives of the late Mr Ken Baird. The completion of 50 years in the ministry of the Church of England will be celebrated by Archbishop Averill at Auckland tomorrow. The archbishop was ordained as a deacon in St Paul’s Cathedral by the late Archbishop Temple, father of the present Archbishop of York, on the fourth Sunday in Advent in 1888. Archbishop Temple was at that time Bishop of London. Mr C. S. Dempster, the former Wellington and New Zealand representative cricketer, who for the past six years has lived in England and who has captained the Leicestershire County cricket team for the past two seasons, arrived at Vv ellington by the Rangitane yesterday from London. Mr Dempster, who was accompanied by Mrs Dempster, is a member of Sir Julien Cahn's team which is to tour New Zealand next year, and has arrived in advance of his team mates.

There was a very large attendance of citizens and district settlers at the funeral in Master ton. yesterday afternoon of the late Mr Joseph lorns, a pioneer resident of. Masterton. The Rev E. J. Rich conducted a service at the residence of Mrs S. R. Buckcridge. Nursery Road, and also officiated at the cemetery. Messrs J. M. James, N. H. James, A. J. Cooper, H. E. Gardner, W. A. lorns and J. Bannister acted as pallbearers. Among those present were representatives of the various bodies with which the late Mr loins had been associated.

The funeral of the late Mrs E. Cooper, which took place yesterday, was largely attended by residents of Gladstone and other parts of the Wairarapa district. The Rev W. F. Stent conducted a service at the residence, “Hinana,” Gladstone and at rhe Masterton Cemetery. Wreaths were received from the Presbyterian Women’s Missionary Union, the president and stewards of the Masterton Racing Club, the Gladstone Sports Club, the Gladstone Women’s Institute. Messrs Wright, Steohensor. and Co., Ltd. and staff, and Messrs T. Wagg and Co., besides many others. The pall-bearers were Messrs D. McGregor. N. McKay, J. K. Strang, C. J. Matson. B. Oliver and W. Tahana,
