CHRISTCHURCH PRICES MAINTAINED CONTINENT TAKES BULK OF OFFERING. CROSSBRED IN DEMAND. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TIMARU, This Day. TIMARU, December 15. At the Timaru wool sale, held this morning, when a catalogue of just on 18,000 bales was offered to a full bench of buyers, prices were firm on the Christchurch auction earlier in the week. Owing to a wet winter and spring, the wool did not open up in the best condition, a good percentage showing the effect of the weather. In view of this, the prices must be considered very satisfactory. The Continent took the greater percentage of the offering, Bradford being fairly quiet. Japan was more in the market than at earlier auctions, while a fair quantity was also taken by America. Dominion mills took only lots of which they were short. The top price for halfbred was 15d, which figure was reached on several occasions. Merino wool was not forward in large quantity, the top price being 14H-Threequarter-bred sold well, the top price reaching 131 d. There was a keen demand for crossbreds, which reached U’d. Only a few lots of Corriedale came under the hammer, the top price being 13|d. Merino and halfbred pieces were in keen demand, up to lid being paid for Merino and lljd for halfbred. Threequarterbred pieces reached 10J d and halfbred necks lljfd. Passings in were about five per cent.
