HEAVY THUNDERSTORM

LIGHTNING AND DELUGE IN WELLINGTON. HOUSE AT KARORI DAMAGED. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. A severe though brief thunderstorm passed over Wellington at between six' and seven a.m. Vivid lightning was accompanied by rolling thunder, a deluge of rain, an unusually high wind and some hail in high places. There was a certain amount of flooding and storm water services were heavily taxed and in some places suffered damage. Following on the storm of a week ago. the lightning caused uneasiness in many homes, and at Karori actually not without reason, for a flash struck the house of Mr M. S. G. Monk, dairy farmer, smashing a window and radio set and charring curtains and wallpaper, while a window blind was torn to tatters. Lightning damage within the city limits was confined to a pine tree struck in the Botanical Gardens and upwards of a hundred telephone fuses were blown in Karori. By eight o’clock the sky had cleared. TWO HORSES KILLED. Two horses sheltering in a group of trees behind the Catholic Church were killed by lightning in this morning’s storm. They belonged to Mr C. H. Glover’s riding school, and were trained jumpers, valued by him at £2O apiece.
