SCHOOL TENNIS
MASTERTON PRIMARY TOURNEY. ST. PATRICK’S DO WELL. The annual Masterton Primary Schools tennis tournament was held yesterday on the Memorial Club’s courts. Large entries were received and a high standard of play witnessed. The tourney was organised and controlled by Messrs J. A. Kennedy and I. Hills, assisted by Misses E. Dawson, M. Rayne, A. E. Golder, Messrs C. R. Boys, R. G. Ward and the boys of Wairarapa College. The thanks of the committee are due to the Memorial Club for the. use of its courts. The semi-finals and finals resulted as follow:—
Boys’ singles: Semi-finals: J. Hourigan (St Patrick’s) beat R. Nicol (Masterton West), 6/2; D. Baird (Masterton West) beat J. Hodgetts (Masterton Central), 6/0. Final: Hourigan beat Baird, 6/4.
Girls’ singles: Semi-finals: C. Talbot (St Patrick’s) beat R. Kuhtz (Masterton Central), 6/2; N. Fowler (Whatnan), beat J. Percy (Fernridge), 6/2. Final: C. Talbot beat N. Fowler, 6/4.
Boys’ doubles: Semi-finals: Towns and Baird (Masterton West) beat Wagg and Fulton (Central), 6/3; Gordon and Hourigan (St Patrick’s) beat Blake and Martell (Lansdowne), 6/2. Final: Gorton and Hourigan beat Towns and Baird, 6/2. Girls’ doubles: Semi-finals: C. Talbot tnd C. Cairns (St Patrick’s) beat N. R’owler and B. Larnack (Whatman). 3/5; J. Percy and E. Thomas (Fern■’dige) beat N. Spring and E. Olson (St. Patrick’s, 6/2. Final: J. Percy and F Thomas beat C. Talbot and C. Cairns. 3/1.
