Tataramoa — The bramble this whose prickly shoots Are sore to those who pick its fruits. Taramea — The fragrant spear-grass, and hung A scented necklet for the young. Tarakihi — A spiny fish to palate good, Most excellent of finny food. KaiKai is to eat, ’tis also food, For, what is eaten must be chewed. Kainga— • Home of our childhood and our tears, For tender thoughts of passing years. Takaro — We play and gambol in our youth Become more staid with age and truth. Kanikani — Dance on in youth with lissom limb, And supple body’s added vim. Korero— To speak, and what we needs must, say, Our thoughts and meanings to convey. Taupo— A settled gloom hangs o'er this lake, Whene’er a distant view we take. Rotorua — Thin crater lake (a wondrous name) Once subject to volcanic flame.
